Hoping to Seed Peas Today
The wonderful farmer from whom I'm renting land this season did me the huge favor of tilling some planting beds for me last weekend.
So I'm going to take my soil thermometer, measuring tape, walking seeder, and 2 lbs. of organic sugar snap pea seed out to the farm with me today and hope that the soil has dried out and warmed up enough for me to seed this season's first crop today!
First on the list is sugar snap peas. These can be seeded early and grow quickly (in about seven-and-a-half weeks). These should be the first vegetables ready for harvest and fermentation in June.
Cultured sugar snap peas (with garlic and marjoram or oregano) are tart but earthy, delicate with a zing. I think you'll like them!
UPDATE 7:45pm: The soil was a balmy 56 degrees, the sun and brisk breeze dried out the soil enough for me to rake a nice seed bed and run the seeder through it, and then a nice little drizzle rained the seeds in once I was done. A rare and lovely day.
